CMap ☆

Principal function(s): Collaborative writingMind mapping

A tool to create and edit mind maps. Users can change the font, size of letters, and many more. It does not require setting up an account, but it requires downloading for its use. Evaluation: CMap ☆ is easy to use and has a professional-looking interface. It is highly customisable and can be operated offline. It can be convenient and practical for individual use by both students and teachers. It allows for synchronous map editing, facilitating effective and time-efficient group work outside the classroom. Average IT skills are required for the installation and use of CMap.

High. CMap collects users’ data but does not share it with third parties for purposes of advertising or marketing. This aligns with the principle of data minimisation. Its data policy mentions users’ ability to withdraw permission for data processing. The policy mentions that data is processed by staff in the UK and that data hosting and maintenance may occur outside the European Economic Area (EEA). CMap complies with the GDPR. See here.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English.
