Clipchamp

Principal function(s): Audio recordingSlide presenting

Clipchamp is a video-editing software, part of Windows 11, that can be used through a browser or as an application. The free version includes basic edition tools for creating videos, trimming and splitting and finally downloading them. Transitions and animated texts can be included, and users are also able to record their screen and webcam and convert text to speech. Evaluation: Clipchamp is a useful platform for creating and editing videos. The free version is somewhat limited, but it does enable professional-looking videos to be assembled, in up to 1080p, although sometimes with a watermark. Overall, it should suffice to cover the needs of educators and learners. Clipchamp could be an interesting tool for learners to boost their creativity and have a medium to express themselves and their interests. They could be asked to create a video related to a school topic, for example, thus obliging them to do some research, and then present the results as a Clipchamp video. Watching and listening to their own videos could help improve their speaking and pronunciation skills. Latest addition to the ICT-REV inventory

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
