DeepL Translate

Principal function(s): Autonomous learningTranslation tools

DeepL Translator is a machine translation service. It offers translations between 29 languages. The cutting-edge technology it uses makes it an accurate and easy-to-use translation tool. Evaluation: A handy and time-efficient tool even in its non-premium version. It is arguably the most accurate existing translation software. However, it is important not to blindly trust DeepL since there might be mistakes in its translations, mainly when it comes to idioms, figurative meanings, and so on. For students, it is important to use this tool in an aware and critical way so as to improve their language proficiency. This can be done by paying attention to the optimal translation offered by DeepL but also reflecting on the other possible translations that can be viewed by clicking on any word so as to eventually choose the fittest one. DeepL can also be used as a writing improvement tool for even one’s first language by translating a text into English and then back into the original language. The final text is then rid of grammar and punctuation mistakes and also stylistically more fine-tuned.

Cost: Free + premium plans available.
