Principal function(s): Audio recording

OpenBoard is an interactive whiteboard designed primarily for use in schools and universities. It allows teachers to create live content thanks to its built-in library of sounds, videos, images, shapes and animations, and it also has a built-in selection of applications such as Wikipedia, a calculator, an HTML editor and more. Users can upload their own content, make annotations and share webpages from a centralised platform. Evaluation: This is a great tool to use in class since it facilitates student engagement. OpenBoard offers a variety of options to make classes more interactive and to customise content as required. Free and open source.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
