InsertLearning

Principal function(s): BookmarkingQuiz/exercise makers

InsertLearning is an interactive toolbar with videos, annotations, questions and comments on the content that can be added to web pages. It functions as an extension to Chrome and needs to be installed by both teachers and students before being used. Instructions for use and examples are provided when it is installed. Students’ answers and comments can also be graded using this extension. Evaluation: This is a great, interactive tool that can increase students’ learning experience by providing a wide range of features to be added to web pages. It can help students understand and reflect on the content in different ways; for example, by highlighting/asking questions about parts of the text, inserting related videos or adding discussion topics for the whole class to get involved. The free version limits the number of lessons to be created using this tool. However, the number of users one can share lessons with is unlimited, as is access to all of the features of the toolbar.

Cost: Free with registration + premium plans available

Latest addition to the ICT-REV inventory

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
