AnswerGarden

Principal function(s): Word cloud creators

Straightforward, user-friendly tool for brainstorming or collecting feedback in a classroom. Educators can submit a question to AnswerGarden, provide learners with access to it via a URL or as a link embedded in a website, blog, or social media post, and wait for them to enter their responses. The answers will be displayed in the form of a word cloud. AnswerGarden has different settings to adjust for every situation. Evaluation: Easy-to-use, valuable tool for collecting feedback and assessing knowledge of a certain topic. There’s no need to create an account. AnswerGarden works best with simple questions with one-word answers as there is a character limit of 20 or 40, depending on the setting selected. AnswerGarden is particularly useful for brainstorming. As a drawback to similar tools such as Mentimeter, word clouds do not update automatically. Instead, the presenter needs to click on refresh to see new answers.

Cost: Free, does not require registration

Latest addition to the ICT-REV inventory

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
