Dropbox

Principal function(s): File sharing/syncing

A cloud-based tool for storing files on the cloud so that they are accessible from any device. Files can be shared with other users as well. The free storage space is limited and can be increased by paying a subscription fee. Evaluation: Useful online storage space as it provides access to files from any device with an Internet connection. Personal files are accessible both on the hard disk and the cloud after the installation of Dropbox on a computer. Limited IT skills are required for its use.

Medium. Dropbox collects various types of data such as account information (name, email, payment info), user-generated content (files, documents, photos), contacts, usage information, device information, and data from cookies and similar technologies. It does so to provide and enhance services, protect users, and for legitimate business needs. Dropbox may use the information for marketing purposes but provides an option to opt-out. It shares data with trusted third parties for business purposes, and with other Dropbox companies. Dropbox is committed to data security and employs measures like two-factor authentication, encryption, and abuse detection. Importantly, users have control over their data, including deletion and access, which is aligned with the spirit of the GDPR. However, although compliance with different legal frameworks is mentioned, the GDPR is not. See more here.

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English.
