Pearltrees

Principal function(s): BookmarkingVirtual pinboards

Teachers and students can use Pearltrees to save bookmarks, documents, files, ebooks, PDFs, photos, notes, and more, along with organising them into beautiful collections. They can then share their digital library. Students can organise their research and collaborate on their digital library to learn by themselves. Evaluation: With Peartrees users can add and organize different resources from webpages, photos, documents, notes, etc., and then share them with their network. Installing the Webclipper tool included on the website allows automatically adding pages of interest to a specific folder. At the same time, one can synchronize Facebook or Twitter accounts and add favourite posts. It is a practical tool to virtually organise teaching materials or even articles and information for future review.

Latest addition to the ICT-REV inventory

Playphrase (Tool to find the pronunciation of words from movies )

Playphrase is a tool that searches specific words or phrases out of movie snippets from a database of audiovisual media with over 60,000 phrases. In this manner, it provides real-life examples of words’ and sentences’ pronunciation. Users just have to type specific phrases, watch them being used naturally in context within popular movies and TV shows, and listen to their pronunciation. Playphrase works mainly with English. Playphrase is not open-source, but it is freely available. It does not require setting up an account or signing in. ... View details
